Moseley Raiders Spring Softball

General Information

Moseley Softball offers instructional and competitive youth softball programs through Chesterfield Youth Softball Association. Whether your child is new to the game or an experienced player, we provide opportunities to grow skills, build friendships, and develop sportsmanship.

Affiliation

Moseley Youth Sports Association (MYSA) is a member of the Chesterfield Youth Softball Association (CYSA), which is one of the largest youth softball organizations in the state of Virginia. It is comprised of 18+ athletic associations based on elementary school attendance boundaries. CYSA uses the rules of the USSSA with some voted upon changes. Moseley conducts registration, selects coaches, forms teams and provides uniforms. Game schedules are provided by CBC.

Eligibility

Children who live within the Moseley Elementary School attendance boundary or eligible free agents (no athletic association for softball established within your elementary school zone) may play for the Moseley. Girls that are at least 5 years old and no older than 18 years old on December 31st* of the current year.

Equipment

Players are required to provide fielding gloves, field face masks, bat, helmet and appropriate cleats. Uniforms, including a jersey, pants, sock and belt will be provided by the association.

Team Selection/Assessments

At this time, there will be no assessments in order to be placed on the team.

Coaches

Head coaches are selected from a pool of volunteers by the Softball Director. All coaches must complete a volunteer background check and display their co-sponsor coach’s card from Chesterfield County during league games. Coaches are also required to complete Sexual Abuse Prevention training to ensure coaches are well prepared.

Season

The length varies by league. Pre-season practice typically begins the first week of March for 8U, 10U, and 12U teams. 15U and 18U typically begin in May.. The regular season runs mid-April through mid-June for 8U-12U and from mid-May through July for 15U and 18U. *Please take note of vacation schedules as playoffs typically run through mid-June.*

Practice

Practice times vary based on field availability and coaches’ personal schedules. There will be at least two practices per week during the preseason. Practices are typically 1 hour and 30 minutes in length and start between 5:00 pm and 6:30 pm on weekdays. CYSA assigns practice times and fields to Moseley. A majority of practices are held at Moseley Elementary School, but other locations may be assigned based on level and availability. Practices are typically limited to one per week after the season begins.

Games

Games will be scheduled based on field availability. Games will take place during the week and also on Saturdays. Game schedules are typically distributed by CYSA the week prior to the first game. Please note: the Moseley Youth Sports Association does not set the game schedules.

Playing Time

Moseley coaches will abide by player participation rules set by CYSA. There are offensive and defensive participation requirements.

Post Season Play

10U and above have postseason tournaments. Participation and seeding is dependent on team record. Not all teams will make the end of season tournament.

Free Agent Policy

Children who live outside of the Moseley Elementary School attendance boundary and do not have CYSA member association within their elementary school boundary are considered to be Open players and may consider registration with Moseley.
